FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q :: What does the tuition include?
A :: 90-hours of prelicensing education or 120-hours of broker education; textbook; binder; and handouts related to classes

Q :: What other materials and costs will be required for the course?
A :: A basic calculator with a battery backup.

Q :: That's it? No hidden costs?
A :: Nothing else is required . We do offer some study aids that you may wish to purchase, but these are optional only.

Q :: Will I need to travel elsewhere to do any of the coursework?
A :: All classes are held at the St. George campus, including the comprehensive review and the education-related testing.

Q :: Why do I have to fill out the Real Estate Agent Questionnaire on the back of the school application?
A :: All real estate schools are required to disclose certain information to anyone wishing to be licensed for real estate in the State of Utah. This form, although disclosed at the time of enrollment in school, will have to be completed again at the Promissor Testing Center. That Questionnaire will be forwarded to the Utah Real Estate Division for your background check.

***VERY IMPORTANT : If you have been licensed in real estate in any state at any time in the past, request the records from that state now.   It usually takes several weeks to receive this information.   The same goes for any misdemeanor or criminal background.   The Division wants to know that everything has been resolved.   Any documents indicating that restitution, probation, etc. has been completed will be required.

Q :: I contacted [state] where I previously had a license but they have no records on me. How can that be documented?
A :: Have that state's real estate commission send you a letter stating that they have no records on file for you. If records are older than the commission's time frame for keeping records on file, that should be indicated in the letter.

Q :: I got in trouble when I was a teenager and had a record. Will this keep me from getting a real estate license?
A :: Not necessarily.

Q :: I had a felony issue as an adult a few years ago, but it's all been resolved. Can I still get my real estate license?
A :: Probably, but you will need to provide documentation for the State when you send in your licensing information. If you have questions about this, call the Utah Division of Real Estate for clarification.

Q :: Do you have placement services?
A :: We do not have a placement program.   We do have weekly presentations by area brokers to give the students an opportunity to meet various brokers and learn of the diversity of programs available for real estate agents.

Q :: How do you keep a record of my classes?
A :: You are responsible to bring your attendance sheet with you each time you attend live or video classes.   The instructor will sign off any classes in the classroom; the front desk personnel will sign off video classes upon verification of completion of required time.   In addition, you will sign the Attendance Roster in the live class or the Video Log for video classes.

Q :: Can I check videos out to complete the class at home?
A :: No.   All video classes must be completed on-site.

Q :: Do I have to attend the Comprehensive Review?
A :: No, but it is to your benefit to do so.   This review is specific to the licensing exam and gives you some very important information regarding testing and pointers, as well as a good review of pertinent testing subjects.   This review is presented live each month on the fourth Wednesday at 4:00 pm or you may view it on video.

Q :: Are the tests I take at the Real Estate Academy the licensing exams?
A :: No.   Licensing exams are performed in a controlled environment at a testing center contracted with through the Utah Division of Real Estate.   Utah has contracted with Promissor.

Q :: What happens when I finish the Real Estate Course?
A :: You will be issued a certificate of completion.   You may then call Promissor to schedule your licensing exam.

Q :: Do I have to go to Salt Lake to take the licensing exam?
A :: No.   It is administered at any Promissor testing center.   Typically, the Southern Utah students go to Las Vegas to test, but you may go to Provo, Salt Lake City, Ogden, Grand Junction, etc.

Q :: How do I get my fingerprints?
A :: After you pass the exam, Promissor will take your fingerprints digitally.

Q :: I am a citizen of [foreign country].   Can I get a real estate license?
A :: If you have a green card or a social security number, you may apply for a Utah real estate license.

Q :: How much does it cost to take the licensing exam?
A :: $68.

Q :: How many parts are there to the licensing exam?
A :: There is a National Exam with 80 questions covering general information and a Utah Law Exam with 50 questions dealing with specific laws in Utah.

Q :: What is the passing grade for the licensing exam?
A :: 70 percent.

Q :: How long do I have to take the licensing exam?
A :: You will have a total of four hours to complete both the Utah Law and National portions of the licensing exam.

Q :: What if I don't pass the licensing exam?
A :: You may schedule with Promissor to retake the exam and will be required to pay $68 again, even if you pass one part and not the other.

Q :: What do you offer that sets you apart from other real estate schools?
A :: We pride ourselves on providing a quality educational experience for our students. We want to help our students achieve success in both their education and their employment.

We do this through live classes with experienced instructors that can make even the driest information more interesting with real-life examples that will help the student retain information better.

Our students are not restricted to just one of each of the classes; if more instruction is needed, any class may be repeated live or on video. Any class, review or test may be repeated to practice and prepare for the licensing exam. There is no extra cost for repeating classes or retesting at The Academy.

We invite real estate related companies, including brokers, mortgage companies, titles companies, etc, to give presentations. This gives our students an idea of differences in brokerages and what is offered in the real estate community. This gives our students the opportunity to meet brokers they may wish to interview, as well as meeting other professionals related to the Real Estate industry whom they may be working with in their new career. We care about our students and it shows. Come check us out! We look forward to meeting you and introducing our school to you.
